Our Commitment to Accountability
At NPNFL, we strive for the highest level of accuracy and thoroughness in our NFL news reporting and analysis. However, we recognize that journalism is a human endeavor, and in the fast-paced environment of digital sports media, errors can occasionally occur.
Our standard is to act swiftly, transparently, and responsibly when a mistake is made. This Correction Policy outlines how we handle factual errors, update developing stories, and maintain the trust of our readers.
1. Types of Errors and How We Handle Them
Not all updates require the same level of editorial action. We categorize our corrections into three main types:
Minor Typos and Grammatical Errors If an article contains a misspelling, grammatical mistake, or formatting issue that does not change the factual meaning of the story, our editors will correct the text directly. We do not issue formal correction notices for minor typographical errors.
Substantive Factual Errors If we publish incorrect information that alters the context or narrative of a story (such as an incorrect score, a wrong salary cap figure, or misidentifying a player in a key play), we will amend the text immediately. Furthermore, we will append a bolded “Correction” or “Editor’s Note” at the bottom of the article. This note will clearly state what the original error was, provide the correct information, and list the date and time the correction was made.
Retractions In the rare event that an entire article or a central premise of a report is found to be fundamentally flawed, unverified, or fabricated, we will issue a full retraction. The original content of the article will be removed and replaced with a clear explanation of why the story did not meet our editorial standards and was consequently retracted.
2. Updating Developing Stories
The NFL news cycle often involves breaking news, such as trade negotiations, draft day decisions, or in-game injury reports, where facts emerge gradually.
When we publish a story based on early reports and later update it with new, verified information, this is considered a “Story Update” rather than a correction. In these instances, we will alter the article to reflect the most current facts and include an “Updated” timestamp at the top of the page. If the new information completely changes the trajectory of the initial report, we will include a brief note explaining the evolution of the story.
3. Corrections on Social Media
We hold our social media channels to the same standard of accuracy as our website.
If a factual error is made in a social media post (such as on Twitter/X or Facebook), we will issue a new post clearly stating the correction. If the platform allows, we may delete the original, incorrect post to prevent the spread of misinformation, but only after publishing a follow-up post explaining the deletion and providing the accurate facts.
4. How to Report an Error
We view accountability as a partnership with our readers. If you believe you have found a factual error in our reporting, we want to hear from you.
When reporting an error, please provide:
-
The exact URL or headline of the article in question.
-
The specific statement you believe to be incorrect.
-
The correct information, along with any verified sources or documentation that supports your claim.
Our editorial team will review your submission promptly. If the claim is validated, we will issue a correction in accordance with this policy.
